“Medford's Rising Star” is open only to Medford, Massachusetts residents or students enrolled full-time in an educational institution located within Medford, Massachusetts who are at least 6 years of age as of Oct.1. If an entrant is a group, at least one member of the group must meet the residency requirement detailed previously. Contestants will be assigned to a category based on his/her/their age group (8-11 years, 12-15 years, 16 years and older). The category assignment of group acts (limited to six members) will be determined by the age of the oldest member of the group as of Oct. 1. Parental/Guardian permission will be required for each applicant under the age of 18. Proof of age will be required at time of audition.

The number of entrants (individuals or groups) will be limited to 150 per category based on the registration postmark date. Any registrations postmarked after the registration deadline will be subject to the “at-the-door” fee if the maximum number of entrants for a particular age group has not been reached. Registrations will be returned to the applicant after the maximum number of entrants is reached. Otherwise, registration fees will be non-refundable. If the maximum number of entrants has not been reached by the date of the audition, entrants may audition on a first-come, first-served basis until the limit is reached.

Audition performances may not exceed two minutes in length. A panel of entertainment professionals will evaluate entrants on talent, showmanship and overall performance. Entrants with the 5-10 highest audition scores within each category will be selected to participate in the grand finale, which will be open to the public and held approximately one month after the audition. Two alternates will also be selected based on audition score. Alternates will commit to participate in the grand finale if a finalist cannot complete his/her/their obligation. The Judges' decisions will be final. Finalists will be notified by phone, e-mail or mail.

Prizes will be awarded at the conclusion of the grand finale to a winner and two runners-up in each category. Winners have the opportunity to perform at one or more community events (based on the appropriateness of talent/performance).

Entrant irrevocably grants the Medford Jingle Bell Festival Committee, sponsor of “Medford's Rising Star,” the right to film, video and use entrant's name, voice, performance, photograph and likeness without additional compensation in advertising, publications, promotions, publicity on the Medford Jingle Bell Festival Web site and in all media now known or hereafter developed for the contest and the right to manufacture copies of all or any portion of the performance, in any form and by any method now or hereafter known, including to import, export, sell, transfer, release, or license and/or use the performance in any medium and in any manner, including but not limited to use as a master recording, audiovisual works, and without payment of any compensation to you except where otherwise required by law; and to publicly perform or to permit the public performance of the performance or master recordings by means of radio broadcast, cable transmission, satellite transmission, television broadcast or any other method now or hereafter known.
